KBC Soma Bay
The KBC has a new, wonderful destination in its programme: The new kitesurfing and wingfoil centre will open in September 2023 in the dream destination of Soma Bay in Egypt - three quarters of an hour south of Hurghada - in cooperation with the newly opened 5-star resort Steigenberger Ras Soma. Currently, the Steigenberger Resort Team and the KBC Team are in the final spurt to complete the centre. The impressive centre with private water sports area is located about 800 metres below the hotel's own beach. The new KBC water sports centre offers kitesurfing and wingfoil lessons, rental of the premium brand F-ONE and storage - in future also windsurfing courses for children and catamaran training and rental - in the well-known KBC quality.
Those familiar with KBC El Gouna can look forward to a warm welcome from some well-known and long-standing KBC staff at KBC Ras Soma in the future. More will be revealed shortly.
Somabay
Soma Bay captivates with its fine, white sandy beach and the wonderful turquoise blue, crystal clear water.
Due to the excellent conditions, the area has become a mecca for water sports enthusiasts. The popular holiday destination is flourishing and is well on its way to becoming the next flagship on Egypt's east coast. In the coming years, a visionary project will be built here, where the land between the Steigenberger Hotel and the KBC Watersports Centre will evolve into a diverse landscape of lively marinas, lagoons, tasteful residential parks and villas surrounded by lush gardens.
Spot & Wind
A constant northerly wind blows in the large bay, enhanced by the nearby Red Sea, making the area very wind-safe and offering fantastic flat-water conditions. Even in strong winds, the water in the bay remains relatively calm, offering perfect learning and practice conditions for freestyle and manoeuvre training. Wingfoilers also get their money's worth here. At the KBC Centre, the wind blows from side-offshore, seasonally also side-shore directions, but first blows about a kilometre across the sea before it hits the KBC Centre and is then constant and unvortexed. The KBC has several boats in operation - to assist with instruction and for the safety of the kiters and wingfoilers.
Downwind through the bay of Soma Bay to "Utopia Island".
Kite or wingfoil with us to “Utopia Island” about 2.5 km south of our center. We drive to the small island in the bay of Soma Bay - a beautiful backdrop for our BBQ with drinks. We start the trip about once a week with the right wind and a minimum number of 3 people - also interesting for groups with a maximum of 15 people.
KBC Ras Soma is the water sports centre of the Steigenberg Resort and is located about 1 km south of the hotel on the wide sandy beach with stunning views of the turquoise waters and Soma Bay. The sheltered location in the bay provides wonderful shallow water conditions. Beginners learn in small groups of up to 2 people and with boat support, with the wind usually blowing diagonally from the sea.
