The Ben Wilson Surf Trip

THE SPOT
Melkbos

Just in front of our beach house we have the world class wave spot Melkbos. Its one of the finest wave spots near Cape Town, located the northernmost of Table Bay s quality beach-breaks.

The waves in front of this very long sandy beach are usually well-sized that s why for many Melkbos is the main course on the daily menu. However with the changing conditions in the area there are always a number of unique spots to discover. During our stay we ve partnered with a local guide, who will tell us where the action is every day.
Some facts:

Water Type: Medium Wave (1-3m), Big Wave (> 3m). Hazards: Reefs. Quality: Clean. The spot is behind a point break (left and right break). BeachType: Nice Sandy beach.
Hazards: Rocks. Wind Best Months: January, February, March, December

The spots around Cape Town
Since the 90s, Cape Town has steadily developed into the preferred winter escape for European windsurfers and kiters. While Europe suffers an enforced break, you re able to hit the water almost daily during the South African summer at a seemingly inexhaustible variety of spots; freshwater lakes to world-class reef-breaks. The region around Cape Town divides into three areas: Table Bay in front of the city, the Cape Peninsulas Atlantic coast, and False Bay which is part of the Indian Ocean.
