Itacare
Brazil
Surfing on untouched beaches, framed by coconut trees and atlantic rainforest, in all-year-long warm water...
That was the motto for founding EasyDrop in Itacaré, Brazil, back in 1997.
EasyDrop has since become a surf camp of international renown, a pioneer in the use of technology for surf teaching, a master of professional and friendly attention, a cultural center for Itacaré, and an active member of the local society standing up for environmental protection and sustainable social development.
During this time many things have changed. The road to Itacaré was paved, and consequently the town and tourism have grown considerably. However, the outstanding constant wave conditions remain, as well as the dreamlike beaches and surroundings, the unique afro-brazilian culture with its super-relaxed life style plus, you bet, the EasyDrop dream-team :-)
Welcome to our world!
Itacaré is situated 500km south of Salvador de Bahia. The airport Ilhéus is at 75km from the surfspot. Most international airports of brazil have a connection to Illheus.
Itacaré is a calm fishing village in the middle of a huge area of protected Atlantic rain forest.
The town, with a population of approximately 8000, was at one time a notorious hideout for pirates. Later it became a lively stronghold for Bahian cacao-exportation, and nowadays is a relaxed village inhabited by fishermen, surfers, Brazilians and foreigners establishing a life close to nature.
Itacaré was discovered for tourism by surfers in the late 70's. Surfers continue being the most faithful clients of its various pousadas and restaurants. It's no surprise, for Itacaré provides its visiting surfers with some of the most consistently breaking surfspots in the Brazilian Northeastern region, with warm water all year round and paradise beaches...
We also have a rainy season, but starts mainly at the end of may, until the end of august - our winter period. But that also means better surfing conditions - bigger waves.
(March would be a good month to come to Itacaré - still hot from the summer, but not exceedingly hot as during the summer; and with a few tourists, but not overcrowded as in the summer.)
