one of the best experiences
As a family of 5+1, Dakhla Lagon Energy has been one of the most exceptional experiences we ever had. From the transfer, the welcome by Abdellatif, the general manager, the staff, the food, the daily raking of the sand in the pathways, the perfect climate, the guys at the beginner friendly kitesurfing lagoon that help you setup and transport you to and from the lagoon, etc....
The thing I love the most is that it is not a big hotel, and that everything is cool and relax. The rooms are located in little "houses". They are basic, but sufficient. If you are looking for 5 star luxury, you are at the wrong place. This hotel is all about feeling relax, in an eco friendly environment.
Some things to get used to or to love:
- the hot shower water is from a deep water source, which is purified and cleaned, but a residue smell remains. That's perfectly normal, and really not an issue.
- Asis is a lovely cat that together with Maradona (another cat), rule the dining area.
- the staff is superfriendly, and really want to take care of everything you want and need.
- Drinking water is free. You always get it at the dining area, and you get a refillable bottle to use in your room. That water does have a tiny little smell of some kind, but it is perfectly drinkable. Nobody cared and nobody complained about it as far as I know.
- Not all staff is fluent in French or English, which can be hard sometimes. Not really an issue, because often another member of the staff jumps in to help. For kitesurfing lessons however this can be an issue.
- Sometimes an electricity generator can be heard far away, which provides the electric power to the hotel. Suggestion to Abdellatif : why not have this replaced by solar energy, that would make sense as a hotel that has a lot attention to the environment ?
- the staff might surprise you when it's your birthday.
- they really use vegetables from their own desert garden.
- this place is all about relaxing and watersports, but no city strawling.
For you kiters out there :
- the perfect spot for beginner (all spots claim this, but here it is really true : flat water, knee-deep water, wind...)
- for advanced riders : wind get get up to 30 to 35 knots in summer, which is great for high speed and high jumps ;-)
- the rescue is superb : within 30 seconds they will see that you are in trouble, and within 1 minute they will fetch and return your lost board or transport you back to the beach.
All in all, I can recommend this place with my eyes closed, you will have a lovely time !
P.S. special thanks to the lovely lady at the reception desk during checkout which name I forgot.
