Peter,
Steigenberger Ras Soma is highly recommended. Nice hotel, very well cared for with beautiful garden and heated pools ( 32 C°). First time in 20 years in Egypt that I've had really good food and also the 3 theme restaurants (bookable in advance via app and free) are top. Beach is ok but nothing special and compared to 6 years ago there is a serious building boom in the bay, now with low-rise buildings, but I hold my heart what this will give in 2-3 years.

Nice club, only open 2 months and very good facilities in terms of rental options and good instructors.
Took wing-foil lessons and was away with it after 2 days. Only downside is that the club is a 1.5 km walk from the hotel and around the club it is becoming one big construction site. There is a shuttle from the hotel every hour.
You do have to walk a 100 meters far to the sea which is shallow for the first 50 meters and there are tides. Shoes are a must or your feet will be open by the corals in the sand.
Wind can be somewhat gusty but can depend on season.
For the club there are few kiters or foilers on the water at the moment though.
Voila these are my findings and you may share this.
