Hello Peter,
Oasis 212 was a new experience for us.
We normally always travel by camper van, but flying is a different way of travelling.
Flying into Paris Orly isn't very convenient, the 12:00 take-off means you have to leave very early and the 10:00 landing is a bit late.
But apart from that, the flight went well.
On the ground: if there's no wind, there's really nothing to do.
There's only quad biking in the desert... and that's not for us.
No stores, markets or cafés to visit.
(Luckily there's 1 ping-pong table, they could add a pool table and kicker).
Hotel:
New, very clean, well maintained, spacious, friendly staff, nothing to complain about.
Rooms really spacious.
Food was good.
Lacked a store with surfing "conveniences" (like lycra t-shirt, wristbands, caps, ...).
Kite:
On the beach, just in front of the hotel, there are lots of sharp stones and shells.
In the course area to the right, this is fortunately much less the case.
It's a bit incomprehensible that they don't have their tractor pass by regularly to remove them.
The staff are very helpful, however, and clean up the kite equipment at the end of the day.
The spot itself is really great, almost no cat on the water, sometimes flat, sometimes small waves, but really ideal for learning.
The instructors are excellent and know their stuff (my wife was an absolute beginner and now she really wants to keep kiting).
The rental equipment: it's subject to the toughest conditions.
We've had 3 kites leak and 1 bar break.
But apart from that, it's top-level kites, all North (Reach, Orbit and Carve) and Duotone boards (quite a few twintips, 1 wakestyle board, 3 directional and 1 foil board).
There were a lot of kites present, I estimate 5 of each size (if the occupancy rate is higher, at home it was +/- 30%, this could cause conflicts).
I would bring my own equipment in the future and rent again if necessary.
They have 2 wingboards and 5 wings (2.5 - 3.5 - 4.2 - 5 - 6 m2).
It's weird that you have to pay extra to use a wing once when you're already paying for 6 days of equipment.
We couldn't kite for 2-3 days due to lack of wind, so logically we don't get that money back, but I thought I'd be allowed to use a kite once and that it would be included in the price.
The aim of the stay: to teach the mom to kite was successful, she's not upright yet but has overcome her fear and is motivated.
It's highly recommended for beginners, but it's always worth mentioning that without wind it's very calm... ;-)
With best regards,
Koenraad Verbeke
